Sat 04/20/2024 Blue Ridge Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, Double Marathon & Relay, Family 1-Miler Roanoke, VA (Elmwood Park) 7:35 a.m. (Marathon, Half & 10K); 1:00 a.m. (Double Marathon) Get ready for a world-class challenge in Virginia's Blue Ridge. This course is a celebration of the human spirit, its toughness is only matched only by the scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the hospitality you will experience along the way. You will find more elevation change here than in any other road race in America. Thanks to title sponsor Foot Levelers, we take care of you at every step with specialized training programs, legendary course support, a music festival at the finish line, and an epic recovery day. The Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon Series has earned its title as “America’s Toughest Road Marathon” by challenging runners with over 7,430 ft. in elevation change, more than any other road marathon in the U.S. This race runs along the famously scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, and proceeds from this non-profit event benefit the parkway and local charities. The full, half and 10k all prove equally challenging yet rewarding on this mountainous course, and all runners are rewarded with a unique finishers’ medals, a tech-tee, live music and local craft beer at the festival-like finish in downtown Roanoke. This race would not be possible without the support of our title sponsor, Foot Levelers. FREEDOM FIRST BLUE RIDGE TEAM RELAY. This FOUR PERSON RELAY course allows teams to tackle America’s Toughest Road Marathon with friends. The course is broken up into manageable sections that are accessible to all runners who are interested in an elevation challenge without the extra mileage; 25 teams of four people will be able to participate (~100 total racers), so don’t wait to register. The day's events also include a Children's Family 1-Miler at 7:45 a.m. Start Location: In Front of the Patrick Henry on Jefferson St. Finish Location: Elmwood Park. Blue Ridge Double Marathon. For years, a group of dedicated (some might argue crazy) runners have shown up in the middle of the night before the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon. This un-official “double” rapidly gained popularity and soon there were dozens of runners burning the midnight oil to run 52.4 miles within fourteen hours (many finish in 8-9 hours). That is when the Blue Ridge DOUBLE Marathon was born. 2017 was the first official year and it sold out with 75 runners. For 2018 the race allotted 100 spots, and sold out again. We now cap the event at 150 runners, and sell out every year. The race has a cult-like following with runners coming from all over the country to test their grit on America’s Toughest Road Marathon (or double) course. The weekend's events include the Sunday Slow-5K (April 21st). See - https://blueridgemarathon.com/sunday-slowk/. This event is owned and operated by the Roanoke Outside Foundation whose mission to make outdoor activity and environmental stewardship a core component of our community’s lifestyle by promoting a “conservation through recreation” philosophy. Virtual Race Options Available. See website for complete event details.
