Most of the runners at this track event are more used to distance running.
John Chall sustained a strong lead to win the men's 400 meter event. Julie
Thienel took first place in all of the women's events. Ted Poulos had run a
cross country race in the morning, but had no trouble winning the 1 mile
event, outpacing Doug Kuderna, who was one of the top finishers at the
Baltimore Marathon the day before.
