Forced by contruction to take the alternate route up Ohio Drive along the riverfront, the 389th monthly running of this race was about 2 miles, not 3K.

Ted Poulos broke away from a pack of four others to win, and Jessica Hudson finished first among women.

Before the race, someone made some racially-insensitive remarks celebrating the fact that there was a delay in notifying the State of Texas that President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclaimation. As a result, slavery in Texas unfortunately was in effect for months longer than the rest of the nation, because there were no Union troops in that state to enforce that new law. Slavery officially ended on January 3, 1863 for all the United States. Since the apolitical crowd was there to run, and not to debate history, these remarks were ignored and the race quickly got underway.
