HOT DAY, COOL COURSE FOR LANGLEY 8K

The temperature soared into the nineties on race day and provided a
toasty climate for runners in the Tuesday evening Langley 8K, Bunion Derby
Run #3. Ted Poulos of McLean didn't let the heat get him as he covered the
distance in 28:56. Patsy Long of Sterling was first among the women in a
time of 32:00.
The course, described as hilly and slightly challenging by runners,
began at Langley High School and wondered through the adjacent neighborhood
in out and back fashion. Poulos lead from the beginning and never let up.
Mark Hosek, also of McLean, was second in 29:32, followed by Bert Potwin of
Alexandria in 29:47.
Hilary Cairns, DCRRC Secretary, was the second place female in 32:13,
followed closely by Beth Miller of Arlington.
Despite the heat, 87 runners completed the event and most seemed to
enjoy the shady reprieve provided on the course by towering oak and maple
trees.
Once again this race, like all other DCRRC events, would not have been
possible without the help of our fine volunteers: Michele Earhart, Hank
Amato, Samantha Harrison, Bob Deschon, Gary Smith, Chris Kater, Pat Griffith.
The race director was yours truly, Doug Earhart (my first DCRRC Race
Director opportunity).
