Darcars Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest Celebrating 30 Years
A Night Time Tradition
By Nancy Betress - MCRRC Media Coordinator
Each year, on the third Saturday of July, Rockville Town Square becomes the site of the Summer's Premier Racing Event. Join the City of Rockville and the Rockville Rotary Club as they celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest, Saturday, July 18, 2015.
Recently named the "Best Evening Race" in the area, the event consists of the following: a 1K and 2 Mile Family Fitness Fun Run/Walk at 8 pm; 8k Wheelchair road race at 8:40 pm; and an 8k road race at 8:45 pm taking them through the neighborhoods in downtown Rockville.
The Festival opens to the public at 7 p.m. with vendors, food, live music, and provides a great post-race party for the runners after they cross the finish line.
Spectators will have a front row seat watching the elite runners compete for open, masters, age group, and wheelchair awards. For the most part, runners are there for two reasons: the pure enjoyment of running at night and "Running for Rockville".
HOT WEATHER WARNING:
Runners are reminded that it is typically hot and humid during this event and you should be properly trained for these conditions. Be sure to be properly hydrated before the race and take water on the course. While we monitor the weather for the event, it is important for runners to make a decision based on the conditions and how well they can handle it.

The annual Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest has raised more than $1,000,000 for charity since it began in the 1980's with all of it benefitting the citizens of Rockville and charities around the world.
The Rockville Recreation Fund annually provides hundreds of low-income children and families with funding to participate in summer camps, sports leagues, after-school day-care, teen programs and community center classes and activities.
The Rockville Rotary Foundation supports local homeless shelters, food programs, needy families, Scouting organizations historic projects, Rotary International's Polio Eradication Initiative, along with many health and education programs in the U.S., India, Haiti and Mexico.
The Twilight Runfest is presented by the Rockville Rotary Club, hosted by the City of Rockville Department of Recreation and Parks and conducted by the Montgomery County Road Runners Club Inc.
