Bob Platt returned to defend his title from 20 years before, expecting that coach
Robert Johnson would accept
a challenge after a 1.5-year hiatus from competition. Instead, Johnson accepted a challenge from a
female steeplechaser. As a result, the long-anticipated "battle of the running site webmasters" never took place.
Reunion Run regular Kenyon Erickson made a strong showing and held with the lead pack for most of the race.
