Three runners from Colgate College in Hamilton NY swept the top three places at DCRRC's 374th monthly Tidal Basin 3K.
Luke Merkel, Mike Hanlon, and Nate Rosenthal finished together in 9:44. Luke was one of Arlington's top high school runners, competing for Yorktown High School. Luke's brother, Brett, 19, also ran, finishing 16th in 12:33. Luke's dad, Jerry, intended to run but arrived late -- just in time to see his boys finish.
Krisztina Kohlhaas, 29, ran her first Tidal Basin race and won it, running 14:25, 50:28, just ahead of Dee Nelson's 14:36.
Many runners wore green in honor of St. Patrick's Day, but none more green than Martin Greenbaum, who wore a green shamrock-and-leprechaun tie and green polka-dot boxer shorts over long-johns.
