George Washington Birthday Marathon Canceled/Postponed
The George Washington Birthday Marathon will not take place in 2010 due to snow on 2/14 and subsequent permitting difficulties on possible backup dates. Marathon and relay team entrants may contact the Race Directors at gwmarathon AT gmail.com.
Race is conducted on a USATF-certified course consisting of three
scenic loops with rolling hills. This race may be run as a Boston
Marathon qualifier.
Marathon Relay
Race is run at the same time and on the same course as the marathon. The relay exchange is at the USDA Visitor Center. The relay team consists of three people in one of the five categories:
COED (Three runners any age. Relay team must have at least one female runner)
Open Men (Three male runners any age)
Open Women (Three female runners any age)
Masters Men (Three male runners at least 40 years old)
Masters Women (Three female runners at least 40 years old)
The first relay runner will run approximately 9.7 miles, the second will run
approximately 7.3 miles, and and the final runner will complete approximately
9.2 miles.
The relay exchange point is at the historic Log Lodge which has hosted many famous visitors including President and Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Secretary of Agriculture and Mrs. Ezra Taft Benson, Secretary of Agriculture and Mrs. Orville Freeman, and Russian Premier and Mrs. Nikita Khrushchev. For details click here. Packet Pickup and Late Registration will be on Saturday, February 13th from 5 to 8 pm at the Greenbelt
Holiday Inn, 7200 Hanover Dr. and on race day at the Greenbelt
Youth Center from 8:30 to 10 am. See the Area
Map for directions. There will be a reception at the "Willie K's" bar at the Hotel at 6 p.m. Saturday for our out-of-town runners.
Male and Female Age Group awards - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Long Sleeve T-Shirts for all entrants.
Medals to all Marathon finishers.
AFTER THE RACE
A hot meal will be served and awards will be presented in the Youth Center after the race.
