2012 Grand Prix Series

RacePacket wrapped up the 2012 Grand Prix Series with an awards lunch in Alexandria, VA. This is the 16th Grand Prix series which has been held annually since 1997. Cash awards were distributed to top runners in the area, and RacePacket also honored the Top Ten Contributors to area running.

Adding a bit of star power to the event was Robin Campbell-Bennett who represented the US in the 800M at the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games.

This year's overall GPX winner was Keith Freeburn with a total of 148 points. Keith won the Jug Bay 10K in 36:00. He earns a check for $500.

Craig Chasse has placed at the top of the overall Grand Prix standings for a number of years. He finished second with 130 point. Craig finished 3rd in the Summer Strides 5K with a time of 18:46. He earns $200.

Ted Poulos has earned a paycheck every year of the Grand Prix existence. He finished 3rd with 122 points. Ted finished 3rd in the Alexandria Half Marathon in 1:22:52. He earns $125.

Jack Kammerer is also a long-time award winner in the Grand Prix. He finished 4th with 58 points. Jack ran a 41:48 at the Jug Bay 10K. He earns $100.

Matt Anderson is on a business trip and could not be here today. He finished 5th with 54 points and earns $75.

Gary Grimsley finished 6th with 50 points. He finished 9th at the Summer Strides 5K in 21:06. Gary earns a check for $60.

Karen Young is our overall female winner with 98 points. Karen ran a 1:48:07 in the Alexandria Half Marathon. Karen earns a check for $500.

Myra Washington could not be here today. She finished second with 63 points and earns a check for $200. She ran a 26:15 at the Summer Strides 5K.

Luann Peterson finished 3rd with 61 points. She ran a 54:27 at the Jug Bay 10K. Luann earns a check for $125.

Finally, Tami Graf is an inspiration to all of us. She finished 4th overall with 22 points. She ran a 32:32 in the Snowflake 5K. Tami earned a $100 awards check.

Rick Lucian has competed in the Grand Prix for many years. He won his age group with 21 points. Rick ran the Snowflake 5K in 22:02. He earns a check for $50.

David Pinnick won the 50-59 age group with 46 points. Dave was fifth overall in the Summer Strides 5K in a time of 19:54. Dave gets a check for $50.

Mike Cannon was second in the 50-59 age group with 37 points. Mike ran a 22:04 at the Snowflake 5K. Mike gets a check for $30.

Bill Stahr has earned Grand Prix honors for many years and was able to continue his streak of earns despite a serious injury this year. Bill was third with 35 points. Bill gets a check for $20.

Full results are posted online and will appear in the March/April issue. The issue will also contain the biographies of the Top Ten Contributors to Area Running which were nominated by RacePacket readers. All honorees and their guests attended the event complements of the magazine.
